Seawall Services

Whether on Lake Michigan or on one of inland Michigan's many lakes, waterfront homes and businesses typically need to install a seawall to prevent erosion and flooding. If you have a dock or deck, building a seawall can also preserve its structural viability. Seawalls are a key marine feature used commonly to protect waterfront investments in Michigan.

While many types of seawalls exist, Michigan is home to a majority of steel and stone revetment seawalls. Tucker Marine Specializes in the installation, repair and maintenance of these seawalls for business and residential lakefront properties.

To determine the type of seawall or repair service appropriate for your property, we look at factors such as location, soil type, and city ordinances as well as aesthetic preference and overall function.

Types of Seawalls

  • Stone Revetment: This is a structure that absorbs or deflects incoming wave energy to prevent erosion. It’s built at an angle hence a less harsh method of dissipating waves and preserving the original slope of the shoreline.
  • Riprap Seawall: This is a type of stone that is a mixture of different materials and comes in various designs that you can use to protect your shoreline or river bank.
  • Steel Seawall: Steel is inexpensive and sturdy, making it an excellent material for the construction of durable seawalls.
  • Concrete Seawall: Concrete seawalls are also quite common and, in some cases, include other reinforcements such as steel, which increases their durability.
  • Composite Seawall: These are made from pre-fabricated materials. But aren’t as sturdy as concrete or steel, though they allow for faster construction.
  • Cobble Boulder Seawall: This kind of seawall is mainly used in less demanding areas with less aggressive wave action.
